1. Technology overview
Redavia is a German company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Munich, with local subsidiaries in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Luxembourg, that rents out pre-configured containerized solar power systems to commercial and industrial customers in sub-Saharan Africa. It was set up to let businesses add solar generation without the upfront capital cost of buying and installing a system, addressing frequent grid outages and high diesel costs faced by companies in the region.
Each Redavia unit is a standardized shipping container holding solar modules, inverters, and optional battery storage with a capacity of up to 100kWp, which can be installed on-site in about six days and later relocated or resized as a customer’s power needs change. Customers are agro-processing, manufacturing, hospitality, real estate, and mining companies in Ghana, Kenya, and Tanzania that lease the containers instead of purchasing rooftop solar outright.
