1. Technology overview
POET Technologies is a photonics semiconductor company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, that took its current name in 2013 after divesting an earlier solar-panel business to focus on integrating electronic and photonic components on a single chip. The company addresses the bandwidth and power-consumption limits that data center and AI system builders face when connecting chips with conventional discrete optical components.
Its POET Optical Interposer platform combines lasers, modulators and detectors on one wafer-level assembly, manufactured with operations in Singapore and Penang, Malaysia. Product lines include the Starlight and Wavelight high-power, multi-wavelength laser light sources and the Teralight optical engines for 1.6T interconnects, aimed at chip-to-chip communication within and between AI servers, presented at CIOE 2026 in September 2026.
