1. Technology overview
AP Sensing is a manufacturer of distributed fiber optic sensing systems, established as an independent company in 2007 in Boblingen, Germany, after growing out of fiber-sensing work originally done at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. The company serves operators of pipelines, power cables and other linear infrastructure who need continuous monitoring along the full length of an asset rather than isolated point sensors.
Its N-Series instruments turn a standard optical fiber into a continuous sensor for temperature (DTS), acoustic and vibration signals (DAS) and strain (DTSS), used for fire detection, power grid and submarine cable monitoring, pipeline leak and intrusion detection, and security applications. Recent deployments include bus-duct monitoring at a Nestle plant in Gujarat, India, and a 2026 partnership with Sterlumiq for power cable network monitoring.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. DTS: distributed temperature sensing along the full fiber length.
2. DAS: distributed acoustic and vibration sensing for intrusion and leak detection.
3. DTSS: combined temperature and strain sensing on one fiber.
4. Grid monitoring: used for power cable and submarine cable monitoring.
5. Security use: sabotage and interference detection demonstrated in 2026.
6. Origin: fiber-sensing technology developed from Hewlett-Packard and Agilent research.
