1. Technology overview
Voltfang is a cleantech company founded in 2020 as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University in Germany, developing battery energy storage systems built from repurposed electric-vehicle batteries. It was set up to give retired EV battery packs a second life while helping commercial and industrial sites manage energy costs.
The company assembles second-life battery modules into containerised storage systems, ranging from 180 kWh commercial units to multi-megawatt installations, paired with its own Voltfang EMS software for peak shaving, solar self-consumption and intraday trading. Customers include manufacturers, retailers, logistics operators and public institutions such as ALDI Nord and McDonald’s locations in Germany.
