1. Technology overview
TE-FOOD is a food-traceability company that began operating in Vietnam in 2016, initially as a centralised tracking system before moving onto a permissioned blockchain in 2018; its international entity, TE-FOOD International GmbH, is now based in Albstadt, Germany. It was built to close a trust gap in food supply chains, where buyers and regulators cannot easily verify where meat, produce or seafood actually came from or how it was handled along the way.
The platform lets each participant in a supply chain, from smallholder farms to processors and retailers, serialise batches, capture handling data with mobile and scanning tools, and write it to a shared blockchain ledger that downstream buyers and consumers can query. It is offered in a full TE-FOOD Enterprise version and a lighter TE-FOOD Lite version, and is reported in use by more than 6,000 companies, including retail chains such as Aeon, BigC and Lotte Mart.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Batch serialisation: gives each product batch a unique identifier at the point of origin, from farm or processing plant.
2. Mobile data capture: lets farmers, processors and distributors log handling events using scanning and mobile tools.
3. Permissioned blockchain ledger: stores the resulting supply-chain history so downstream participants can verify it independently.
4. Consumer lookup: shoppers can scan a product code to view its recorded origin and handling history.
5. Two deployment tiers: TE-FOOD Enterprise for full traceability programmes and TE-FOOD Lite for lighter rollouts.
6. Retail-scale adoption: used by more than 6,000 companies, including retail chains such as Aeon, BigC and Lotte Mart.
