1. Technology overview
Faraday Technology Corporation is a fabless semiconductor company founded in 1993 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, originally established as a spin-off from United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and recognized as one of the first ASIC design service providers in Asia. The company addresses the challenge faced by electronics manufacturers that need custom system-on-chip (SoC) silicon but lack in-house chip design teams or direct foundry access.
Faraday combines ASIC/SoC design services with a portfolio of silicon intellectual property (IP) blocks, covering standard cell libraries, embedded memory compilers, interface IP and mixed-signal building blocks, which customers license and integrate into their own chip designs. Its clients span networking, consumer electronics, industrial and automotive OEMs that outsource chip design and production coordination through Faraday’s design centers in Taiwan and partner foundries such as UMC.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. ASIC/SoC design service: Full-flow chip design from specification to tape-out for customer-defined system-on-chip products.
2. Silicon IP library: Standard cell, memory compiler and interface IP blocks licensed for reuse across chip projects.
3. Foundry access: Design flows tuned for UMC and partner foundry process nodes to shorten manufacturing lead time.
4. Multi-project wafer (MPW) shuttle: Shared wafer runs that let smaller customers prototype chips at lower cost.
5. Physical design and verification: Layout, DFT and signoff services to reduce respin risk before mass production.
6. Global support offices: Technical support centers in Taiwan, the US, Japan, China, India and Vietnam.
