1. Technology overview
InspiraFarms is a cold chain technology company founded in 2012, with its main office in Nairobi, Kenya, and additional teams in London, Paris and Singapore. It was created to cut fresh produce and protein losses caused by the near-absence of refrigeration across African food supply chains, where only a small share of harvests ever enters a cold chain.
The company designs, installs, finances and services modular cold rooms, pre-coolers, packhouses, freezer rooms and small slaughterhouses that run on grid power, solar or a hybrid of both, and since 2022 it has also offered retrofit kits for existing cold storage. Customers are agribusinesses, exporters, third-party logistics providers and food distributors handling fruit, vegetables, flowers and animal protein, and the company has deployed more than 150 installations across 15 African countries.
