1. Technology overview
Cleareye.ai is a trade finance technology company founded in 2019, headquartered in California with offices in New York, Bahrain and India. It automates the document-heavy back office of documentary trade, where examiners manually compare invoices, bills of lading and certificates presented under letters of credit and collections against ICC rules such as UCP 600 and ISBP 745.
Its platform ClearTrade is modular: document digitisation, AI-driven document examination that returns explainable discrepancy findings, sanctions screening, trade-based money laundering checks, handling of guarantees and standby letters of credit, and a self-service portal for corporate clients. The company states manual review is cut by around 80 percent. J.P. Morgan made a strategic investment in June 2023 after a 2022 alliance; NatWest announced on 27 May 2026 that it is implementing ClearTrade across trade operations to strengthen financial crime controls. Lloyds Bank is also named as a client.
