1. Technology overview
Sunew is a Brazilian solar technology company founded in 2015 as a spin-off backed by CSEM Brasil, FIR Capital, BNDES and Tradener, headquartered in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It develops organic photovoltaic (OPV) films to let businesses generate solar power on curved, lightweight or semi-transparent surfaces where rigid silicon panels cannot be used.
Its ORENgE film line converts light into electricity on flexible substrates applied to building glass facades, delivery vehicles and IoT devices, produced on what the company describes as the world’s largest OPV production line, with capacity of about 400,000 square meters per year. Since 2020 Sunew has fitted OPV panels on PepsiCo delivery trucks, reaching 253 vehicles by 2023, and has delivered an adhesive organic solar installation with utility EDP in Espirito Santo, Brazil.
