1. Technology overview
X-FAB is a specialty semiconductor foundry group with roots in the 1992 privatization of East Germany’s Kombinat Mikroelektronik Erfurt, later consolidated as X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries in 1999, with operational headquarters in Erfurt, Germany. The company focuses on analog/mixed-signal, MEMS and silicon carbide (SiC) process technologies rather than mainstream digital logic manufacturing.
X-FAB operates six wafer fabs in Germany, France, Malaysia and the United States, offering more than 450 process options across 13 technology families spanning CMOS and SOI nodes from 1.0 micron to 110 nanometer, plus wide-bandgap SiC and GaN processing and wafer-level packaging. Customers are fabless and IDM chip makers serving automotive, industrial and medical end markets that need specialty analog, sensing or power semiconductor manufacturing.
