1. Technology overview
Vulcan Augmetics was founded in 2018 by Rafael Masters and Ella Trinh, with its operating office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and a registered address in Singapore. The company builds affordable, AI-assisted upper-limb prosthetic and biosignal devices for emerging markets and conflict zones, where conventional myoelectric arms are priced out of reach of most amputees.
Products include the Vulcan Myoelectric Hand, launched as the Mark 9.7 Flex multi-grip hand in 2021 and updated as the Mark 9.9 in 2022; the MyoBand wearable EMG control band; the Vulcan Electric Elbow; the Vulcan MSK Sensor System; and complete transradial and transhumeral upper-limb packages. A one-minute auto-calibration captures each patient’s biosignals, and the company reports fittings on patients with weak signals, bilateral loss and short residual limbs. Buyers are clinicians, prosthetists and prosthetic clinics across more than 17 countries.
