Optibus AI Platform for Transit Planning and Operations

1. Technology overview

Optibus is a transit technology company founded in 2014 by Amos Haggiag and Eitan Yanovsky, operating as Optibus Ltd under Israeli law with seven offices worldwide. It provides an AI-powered cloud platform that helps transit agencies, cities and bus operators plan networks, build efficient schedules and run daily operations, and it reports use in more than 35 countries and 7,000 cities.

The platform covers network planning, vehicle and duty scheduling, driver rostering, daily operations with dispatch and payroll, real-time control and fleet monitoring as an alternative to CAD/AVL, passenger information, a driver app and the MagicEye driver safety module. Optibus Agent adds an AI layer into existing workflows, and electrification tools plan charging times, locations and minimum battery levels for electric buses. Customers include Keolis, Arriva, RATP Dev, Chapel Hill Transit and EMT Fuenlabrada.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • Planning: route planning and network analysis for agencies and operators.
  • Scheduling and rostering: vehicle and duty allocation plus balanced driver rosters.
  • Operations: daily allocation, dispatch, driver bidding and payroll.
  • Control and monitoring: real-time fleet monitoring positioned as a CAD/AVL alternative.
  • Electrification: charging schedules, charger management and energy management for e-buses.
  • Optibus Agent and MagicEye: AI agents in workflows and driver safety risk detection.

3. Potential application

A city bus operator converting to electric buses can plan timetables, charging slots and depot use together. Transport departments in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City can analyse bus network changes when metro lines open. Intercity and employee bus companies can optimise driver rosters and payroll.

4. Benefits

Operators can cut vehicle and driver hours by optimising schedules and rosters in one system rather than separate tools. Electric bus fleets get charging schedules that reduce downtime and peak electricity cost. Real-time monitoring and passenger information improve reliability for riders. Optibus reports more than 7 billion trips a year planned on its platform and 11 million tonnes of CO2 reduced annually.

6. Other information

Founded in 2014 by Amos Haggiag (CEO) and Eitan Yanovsky (CTO). Raised 260 million USD in total and described as the first public transport start-up to reach unicorn status. ISO 27001:2022 certified and holds a 2023 EcoVadis Gold rating. Seven offices worldwide; privacy policy governed by Israeli law.
