1. Technology overview
Shotl is a software provider for demand-responsive and fixed-route transport, founded in Barcelona in 2017 and registered as Shotl Transportation, S.L. in Sant Cugat del Valles. Transport operators run the vehicles while Shotl supplies the software, and services run in towns, cities, campuses and valleys across Europe, Asia and Africa.
The platform includes a passenger app, a driver app, an operations dashboard, the Shotl API, a white-label option and fares and payments, with trips re-planned in under five seconds as requests arrive. It supports on-demand service, fixed routes, dynamic bus lines, multimodal bookings, group commuting and door-to-door paratransit, and offers simulation, RFP support and implementation services. Named customers include Grupo Avanza, Munich Airport, Odakyu Group, ITOCHU, Kuwait Public Transport Company, TMB Barcelona, Bosch and Volkswagen.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Passenger app: booking of on-demand and dynamic bus trips, with a white-label option.
- Driver app: navigation and trip handling with routes updated in real time.
- Operations dashboard: monitoring and optimisation of service, fleet and demand.
- Real-time routing: trips re-planned in under five seconds as requests arrive.
- Fares and payments: in-app fare collection and multimodal bookings.
- Shotl API and simulation: integration interfaces plus pre-launch service simulation.
3. Potential application
Tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Hoi An or Sa Pa can run seasonal on-demand shuttles between hotels, beaches and attractions. Provincial bus companies can replace low-ridership fixed routes in rural districts with bookable minibuses. Industrial parks and universities can operate on-demand employee and campus shuttles.
4. Benefits
Operators and authorities can serve low-density areas, nights and tourist peaks with right-sized vehicles instead of empty fixed buses, and customers report fleet reductions. One platform covers passenger and driver apps, dispatch, fares and analytics. Real-time re-planning in under five seconds keeps shared trips efficient. Simulation and RFP support help authorities design and tender a service before launch.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Demand-responsive transport is spreading from pilots to full networks, including nationwide service in San Marino and seasonal tourist shuttles in Italy, and Japanese groups such as Odakyu are adopting it to sustain rural mobility. Vietnam's ageing rural population, tourist hotspots and new metro lines create similar needs for flexible feeder and tourism shuttles.
