1. Technology overview
Ambiq Micro, Inc. is a US fabless semiconductor company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker AMBQ since its July 2025 IPO. The company was formed to solve the battery-life limits of always-on, battery-powered edge devices by designing chips that run computation at far lower voltage and power than conventional designs.
Ambiq’s proprietary SPOT sub-threshold power-optimized technology underlies its Apollo family of systems-on-chip, spanning the Apollo3/Apollo4 lines and the latest Apollo510 edge-AI SoC built on an Arm Cortex-M55 core. Chips are sold to device makers building smartwatches, hearables, medical and health-monitoring wearables, IoT sensors and smart-home products, with more than 290 million units shipped to date.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. SPOT technology: proprietary sub-threshold circuit design that cuts active and standby power consumption.
2. Apollo510 SoC: latest-generation edge-AI chip using an Arm Cortex-M55 core with Helium technology.
3. AI inference efficiency: up to 300x more AI inference throughput per joule versus earlier Ambiq generations.
4. secureSPOT platform: built-in security combining Arm TrustZone and physically unclonable function (PUF) key generation.
5. Apollo3/Apollo4 families: Cortex-M4F based SoCs with Bluetooth Low Energy variants for connected wearables.
6. Target applications: smartwatches, hearables, medical wearables, IoT sensors and smart-home devices.
