1. Technology overview
Carbon Maps is a French climate technology company founded in 2022 that builds a decarbonization platform specifically for the food industry. It was created to give food retailers, brands and food-service operators a way to measure emissions at both the corporate and individual product level, replacing generic spend-based estimates with activity-based, ingredient-level data.
The platform combines a corporate carbon footprint module covering Scope 1-3, a product carbon footprint and life-cycle-assessment engine that models emissions from farm to shelf, and a supplier engagement portal for collecting primary data across the food value chain. Calculations follow ISO 14040/14044/14067 and PACT methodologies and are validated by TUV Rheinland; customers include retailers, food brands and food-service groups such as Carrefour, Intermarche and Sodexo.
