1. Technology overview
ChargeAfter is a point-of-sale financing technology company founded in 2017 by Meidad Sharon and headquartered in New York. It addresses a distribution problem for banks and lenders: consumer credit is decided inside merchant checkouts, where a single lender approves only part of the applicants. ChargeAfter runs an embedded lending network that lets merchants and financial institutions present several credit offers from one application.
The platform routes each application through a real-time waterfall matching engine across roughly 40 pre-integrated lenders, spanning prime lenders such as Citizens and Wells Fargo, near-prime lenders including LendCare, lease-to-own providers such as Katapult and Progressive Leasing, and BNPL brands including Klarna, Afterpay and Zip. Banks deploy it as a white-label platform under their own brand; merchants use it in store, online, by telesales and in home, with a back office for post-sale servicing and analytics. Investors include Visa, Synchrony, MUFG, Citi Ventures, Banco Bradesco and The Phoenix, which led a USD 44 million Series B in March 2022.
