1. Technology overview
Efinix, Inc. is a US semiconductor company founded in 2012 by Sammy Cheung and Tony Ngai, headquartered in Cupertino, California, with additional offices worldwide. It was built to design a new class of field-programmable gate array (FPGA) tailored for AI-driven, real-time edge applications that need more compute density and lower power than conventional FPGA architectures.
Efinix’s chips are built on its proprietary Quantum fabric reconfigurable architecture and grouped into the Trion, Titanium and Topaz FPGA families, paired with the Sapphire suite of RISC-V soft processors. Devices are sold to equipment makers building machine-vision, industrial-automation, automotive and consumer-electronics products that run AI workloads locally on embedded hardware.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Quantum fabric architecture: reconfigurable logic delivering higher area efficiency than traditional FPGA fabrics.
2. Trion family: compact, low-power FPGAs for space- and power-constrained edge and IoT designs.
3. Titanium family: high-performance FPGAs with hardened interfaces such as PCI Express and MIPI for demanding workloads.
4. Topaz family: FPGAs optimized for high-volume production designs.
5. Sapphire RISC-V processors: soft-core processors that pair with the FPGA fabric for flexible embedded compute.
6. Target markets: machine vision, industrial automation, automotive and consumer-electronics edge AI applications.
