1. Technology overview
Facephi is a digital identity company founded in 2012 and headquartered in Alicante, Spain, with subsidiaries in APAC, EMEA and LATAM and a presence in more than 25 countries. It provides biometric identity verification and fraud prevention to banks, fintechs, insurers, telecom operators, airlines and governments.
Facephi Onboarding runs remote KYC in three steps: the user scans an identity document with real-time OCR, takes a selfie checked by passive liveness, and the face is matched against the ID photo. Optional modules add NFC chip reading, AML, PEP and sanctions screening, connections to government databases, video recording, device securing and an integrated digital signature. The wider IDV Suite adds authentication, behavioural biometrics, mule account detection, injection attack defence and the Teseo identity wallet. It is delivered as SaaS, PaaS or on-premise across mobile, hybrid and web channels.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Document capture: automatic capture and real-time OCR extraction with document validation.
- Passive liveness: detects photos, masks, 3D artifacts, deepfakes and injected video, with optional active liveness.
- Face matching: compares the live selfie with the ID document portrait.
- NFC and database checks: reads ID chips and connects to government databases.
- Compliance screening: AML, PEP, sanctions and exclusion list checks plus integrated digital signature.
- Fraud suite: behavioural biometrics, mule account detection and injection attack defence.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese banks and consumer finance companies can onboard customers remotely with document OCR, NFC chip reading and certified passive liveness, deployed on-premise. Payment and e-wallet providers can apply behavioural biometrics and mule account detection to flag accounts rented for scams. Airlines and airports can use biometric passenger verification for faster check-in and boarding.
4. Benefits
Facephi reports identity verification in under 10 seconds, 40% faster onboarding, 60% cost savings and a 99.876% success rate. Passive liveness certified at iBeta Levels 1 and 2 and ranked top in NIST FATE PAD resists printed photos, masks, real-time deepfakes and injected video without asking users to perform actions. On-premise deployment allows banks to keep biometric data inside their own infrastructure.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Real-time deepfakes and camera injection attacks are now a leading threat to remote onboarding, and regulators expect certified presentation attack detection. Vietnam's biometric requirements for online banking transfers and chip-based citizen ID cards, along with the fight against mule accounts used in online scams, create demand for combined onboarding, authentication and fraud detection across Southeast Asia.
6. Other information
