1. Technology overview
Griffin is a UK bank built to serve as banking infrastructure for other companies. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, it received a UK banking licence with restrictions in March 2023 and full authorisation from the Prudential Regulation Authority and Financial Conduct Authority in March 2024 (firm reference 970920). It is one of the few BaaS platforms in Britain that holds its own deposit-taking licence rather than renting one from a sponsor bank.
Accounts, payments and onboarding are exposed through a single API. Modules cover embedded bank accounts, savings accounts, client money and CASS-compliant safeguarding accounts for e-money and payment institutions, GBP payment execution, and a Verify product for KYC and KYB onboarding. Customers are platforms and fintechs rather than consumers: Griffin reported more than 50 platform customers at the end of 2025, including Uber, Marqeta, Access Group, Sidekick and Aspora, with about GBP 3 billion in payment value processed.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Own banking licence: PRA-authorised and FCA-regulated bank (FRN 970920), so deposits sit on Griffin's own balance sheet.
2. Embedded bank accounts: GBP accounts opened programmatically in the platform's or the end customer's name.
3. Safeguarding and client money: CASS-compliant accounts for e-money firms, payment institutions and wealth platforms.
4. Embedded savings: interest-bearing savings accounts partners can place inside their own app.
5. Verify: built-in KYC and KYB onboarding with configurable decision rules.
6. Track record: 50+ platform customers at end-2025 including Uber and Marqeta, about GBP 3 billion of payments processed.
