1. Technology overview
Kodo is an Indian corporate card and spend management company founded in 2019 by Deepti Sanghi and Gaurav Thapa, based in Mumbai and part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2021 batch. It targets Indian small, medium and mid-market companies where vendor payouts, employee expense claims and card spend are handled through separate banking portals and manual approval chains.
The platform issues corporate cards with real-time controls and combines them with accounts payable automation, vendor payouts and employee reimbursement inside one approval workflow. Invoices are captured and matched, spending policies are applied per card and per team, and transactions post automatically into accounting and ERP systems including Zoho, Tally, Oracle and SAP. Cards are issued in partnership with banks and card issuers rather than on Kodo’s own balance sheet. The company reports more than 2,000 companies on the platform and raised 8.75 million USD in seed funding from investors including Brex, Goat Capital and Pioneer Fund.
