1. Technology overview
Okmetic is a silicon wafer manufacturer founded in 1985 as a joint venture between Nokia and Outokumpu, headquartered in Vantaa, Finland, and owned by China’s National Silicon Industry Group (NSIG) since 2016. It supplies specialty wafers to semiconductor and MEMS manufacturers that need customized substrates rather than standard commodity silicon.
The company produces 150-200 mm wafers in-house, including high-resistivity RFSi wafers for RF applications, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers, MEMS wafers, power device wafers, patterned and through-silicon-via (TSV) wafers, plus epitaxial wafers, and coordinates 300 mm wafer supply through manufacturing partners. Its customers are established semiconductor manufacturers producing MEMS, sensors, RF filters, power devices and mixed-signal ICs for consumer electronics, automotive, industrial and data center applications, supported by its expanded Vantaa fab.
