1. Technology overview
Onomondo is a Danish IoT connectivity company founded in 2012 by Michael Freundt Karlsen and Henrik Aagaard and headquartered in Copenhagen. After years building core-network infrastructure for telecom operators, the company launched its own cellular network purpose-built for IoT traffic in 2018, aiming to replace fragmented country-by-country SIM contracts with a single global connection.
Its platform issues physical SIM cards, eSIMs and SoftSIM software profiles that route device traffic across more than 680 mobile networks in over 180 countries through one core, with a management console for usage monitoring, remote diagnostics, OpenVPN/IPsec security and a private wireless network core. Customers include asset-tracking, automotive telematics, EV-charging and smart-metering companies such as Maersk.
