1. Technology overview
Pyrum Innovations is a German recycling technology company founded in 2008 and based in Dillingen/Saar. It industrialises thermolysis, a process that breaks down organic material at high temperature in an oxygen-free environment so that end-of-life tyres are turned back into raw materials instead of being incinerated for energy. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange since 2021 and on the Frankfurt Scale segment since 2022.
The Dillingen plant processes roughly 20,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres per year and yields ThermoTireOil, a recycled pyrolysis oil for the chemical industry, ThermoTireBlack recovered carbon black for tyre manufacturing, steel wire returned to steel mills, and process gas that powers the plant itself. A grinding and pelletising plant for recovered carbon black is under construction at the headquarters in 2026. Pyrum also licenses its plant technology: partners include BASF ChemCycling, Continental, Schwalbe and Pirelli, and the UniPyrum joint venture with UNITANK targets up to ten plants, with a site secured at Vresova in the Czech Republic.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Thermolysis process: oxygen-free high-temperature decomposition of end-of-life tyres into reusable fractions.
2. ThermoTireOil: recycled pyrolysis oil supplied as feedstock to the chemical industry.
3. ThermoTireBlack: recovered carbon black used in tyre manufacturing, with a grinding and pelletising plant built in 2026.
4. Plant capacity: about 20,000 tonnes of tyres per year in Dillingen; standard plants designed for over 22,000 tonnes.
5. Energy balance: process gas from thermolysis is used to run the facility itself.
6. Technology licensing: partners include BASF ChemCycling, Continental, Schwalbe and Pirelli, plus the UniPyrum joint venture.
