1. Technology overview
Sea6 Energy is a seaweed-technology company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Bangalore, India, with an operating office in Bali, Indonesia. It was created to remove the manual, labour-intensive bottleneck of tropical seaweed farming, which limits how much ocean surface a farmer can plant and harvest.
Its core product, the SeaCombine, is a mechanised vessel that seeds, harvests and handles seaweed on floating farms in a single pass, allowing cultivation in deeper, more nutrient-rich water than hand-tended lines. In 2024 the company used this technology to launch what it describes as the world’s first large-scale mechanised tropical seaweed farm, off Lombok, Indonesia. From the harvested biomass, Sea6 Energy also makes branded seaweed-based inputs for agriculture (including the Agrogain line) and aquaculture (Shrimplus, Vesigrow), sold to farmers and distributors.
