1. Technology overview
Solaris SE is a Berlin-based technology company holding a full German banking licence, established in 2015 and operational from March 2016. It addresses the licensing and infrastructure barrier facing brands and fintechs that want to offer regulated financial products in Europe without becoming a bank: Solaris holds the licence and carries the regulatory obligations, while partners embed accounts, cards, payments and credit into their own products through RESTful APIs.
The platform is modular, covering digital banking with current, savings and multi-account structures; issuing and managing debit, prepaid and credit cards; KYC and KYB identification; SEPA transfers, direct debits, instant payments and batch processing; and lending including consumer loans and Splitpay instalment financing. Because the licence is German, services can be passported across EU markets. Japan’s SBI Group became majority shareholder in March 2025.
