1. Technology overview
Solfium is a Mexican company founded in 2020 by Andres Friedman, Zach Magnan, and Juan Osuna that builds a technology platform to speed up adoption of distributed solar energy in Latin America. It was created to remove the financing and technical friction that keeps small installers and businesses from switching to solar, an obstacle in a region with high electricity tariffs but fragmented, undercapitalized installation networks.
The platform connects residential, business, and industrial customers with a network of solar installers, financing partners, and equipment suppliers, handling quoting, engineering, and loan origination through a partnership with Scotiabank. Solfium has been recognized by the Solar Impulse Foundation as the only Mexican company on its efficient-solutions list and named to the World Energy Council’s SET100 index, and it was selected to Google’s 100 PRO LATAM startup program for three consecutive years.
