1. Technology overview
Tarabut, formerly Tarabut Gateway, is a regulated Open Banking and open finance platform for the MENA region, founded in 2017 by Abdulla Almoayed. It started in Bahrain after the Central Bank of Bahrain mandated Open Banking for retail banks, and now operates across Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE from a regional base in DIFC, Dubai.
The platform addresses the fragmentation that Open Banking mandates create: every bank exposes a different interface, and each fintech would otherwise integrate with them one by one. Tarabut aggregates those bank connections behind a single universal API, so lenders, fintechs and non-financial businesses can retrieve permissioned account and transaction data, run affordability and credit decisioning on it, and initiate account-to-account payments. Product lines span BaaS infrastructure, data and analytics, embedded finance, payments, POS financing and auto financing.
