1. Technology overview
Thredd is a London-headquartered issuer processor founded in 2007 as Global Processing Services and rebranded to Thredd in April 2023. It is backed by Advent International, Viking Global Investors, Temasek and MissionOG, with Mastercard and Visa also on the register. Banks, fintechs and embedded finance providers use it when they want to run a card programme without building or certifying their own processing platform.
The platform handles card lifecycle and account management, real-time authorisation processing, tokenisation for Apple Pay and Google Pay, fraud monitoring, dispute handling and cardholder controls for physical and virtual debit, credit and prepaid cards. Thredd is certified by both Visa and Mastercard and works with BIN sponsors including Cross River Bank. It reports support for more than 325 million cards, over 2.5 billion transactions a year and coverage of 50-plus countries across APAC, Europe and the Americas.
