1. Technology overview
Trella is a digital road freight marketplace founded in 2018 in Cairo, Egypt by Omar Hagrass, Pierre Saad, Muhammad El Garem and Ali El Atrash, created to replace informal, phone-based truck booking with a transparent online marketplace for shippers and carriers. The company went through Y Combinator’s Summer 2019 batch and acquired local competitor Trukto the same year.
Shippers use the platform to request instant quotes and book loads with vetted carriers, while trucking companies access jobs, live GPS tracking with milestone alerts, analytics dashboards and direct truck rental options. Trella now works with more than 30,000 carriers across its home market of Egypt as well as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
