1. Technology overview
Igloo is a full-stack insurtech founded in Singapore in 2016 as Axinan by former Grab chief technology officer Wei Zhu, and later renamed Igloo. It operates in six Southeast Asian markets – Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia – with technology centres in China and India. It supplies the technology and the underwriting-partner network that allow e-commerce platforms, ride-hailing and delivery apps, banks and agent networks to distribute small-ticket insurance without holding an insurance licence or building policy administration in-house.
Modules include Igloo Tech Solutions for product creation, distribution and operations, the Turbo core insurance system covering the full value chain, Igloo Partner for affinity distribution, Igloo Agent and Ignite for intermediary and agent networks, and Igloo Consumer as a direct marketplace. More than fifteen product lines span device and mobile phone protection, motor and motorcycle, travel, pet, cyber, e-commerce return protection and weather-index crop cover. Igloo works with over 100 insurance and distribution partners, among them Shopee, Foodpanda, GCash, AIS and Siam Commercial Bank, reports more than one billion policies facilitated as of 2025, and has raised over USD 100 million.
