1. Technology overview
GIMO is a Vietnamese fintech founded in 2019 by Nguyen Van Ngoc and Nguyen Anh Quan, headquartered in Hanoi. It sells earned wage access to employers, so factory, retail and service workers can draw part of the salary they have already earned before payday instead of borrowing informally. The company raised a US$17.1 million Series A led by TNB Aura, with Integra Partners, ThinkZone Ventures and Y Combinator among backers.
GIMO connects to the employer’s timekeeping and payroll systems, calculates accrued earnings in real time and lets an employee withdraw up to 60% of earned income to a bank account, with reconciliation at the payroll cycle so the employer’s cash flow is unchanged. Around the advance sits a financial wellbeing app covering expense tracking, mobile top-up and shopping benefits. Customers are employers with large blue-collar workforces; GIMO states that more than 800,000 Vietnamese workers use the platform. For a bank, the model is a payroll-linked channel into an underbanked customer base.
